MagnaCarta Theatre Company's Production of "2.5 Minute Ride" by Lisa Kron Slated To Open Friday, March 5th, 2004
(LOS ANGELES, CA -- December 8, 2003) MagnaCarta Theatre Company announces “2.5 Minute Ride” -- a terrifically funny and profoundly moving play by Lisa Kron will launch their 2003-04 season on Friday, March 5th, 2004 at the ITA Production Stage in West Los Angeles. Jessica Zweiman to star, directed by Matthew Jordan.
In 2.5 Minute Ride, Author Lisa Kron
sends us on a roller coaster ride through the Kron family album.
Rising and falling between high hilarity and deep disquiet. Her
writing demonstrates with disarming simplicity that humor and horror
can share the same human moment.
The play switches back and forth between Kron's journey to Auschwitz
with her septuagenarian father, a Holocaust survivor; her Michigan
family's annual pilgrimage to a Sandusky, Ohio, amusement park; and
her brother's marriage to his Internet bride. By moving seamlessly
between these three diverse recountings, Kron creates a complex and
at times startling meditation on how human beings make sense of
tragedy, grief, and everyday life.
The
world premiere of 2.5 MINUTE RIDE, directed by Lowry Marshall, was produced at
the La Jolla Playhouse, La Jolla, California; Michael Greif, Artistic Director
& Terrence Dwyer, Managing Director.
2.5 MINUTE RIDE was produced in New York by the Joseph Papp Public Theater /
New York Shakespeare Festival, George C. Wolfe, Producer, in March, 1999.
The original script for the La Jolla Playhouse production was developed
through collaborative work with Lowry Marshall and subsequently reworked
during a residency at SoHo Rep, New York City, in April 1997 presented by
David Binder.
